Restoring a natural landscape
The catchments of the River Pang and Sulham Brook face many man-made challenges, but they also offer significant potential for large-scale nature recovery. A recent floodplain reconnection project at Frilsham is just one example of the opportunities to restore natural processes and improve habitats for nature.
Our vision
Our vision for the Pang Flagship Chalk Stream Partnership is to restore the River Pang, a chalk stream, and the neighbouring Sulham Brook to healthy habitats, supporting the diverse functions of these ecosystems for nature and for people.
Building on the Catchment Based Approach Chalk Stream Strategy, our vision sets out the critical role of these unique habitats in England’s biodiversity, their historical decline, and how to address current threats. Using the profile and support of the Flagship Initiative, the Pang Flagship Chalk Stream Partnership plans to be ambitious in its aims and to serve as an example for the process of restoring chalk streams.
